i found these beat boards whilst having a hard drive clear out . they were drawn to present ideas for the sequence when the land of the dead arrive in the land of the living during the wedding party banquet .some didn't make it into the final film . i think it was a pity that Barkis never got to eat a slice of maggoty wedding cake !
This is the Valentines' card i drew for my wife, Selena ( yes Gary i know - only if you're sure !) I'm not sure how romantic it is but it made her laugh . Edwin has assumed the character of powerman recently and using his drumstick of power along with his glasses of power he can hover about 3 feet off the ground ( using the dad of power as his sidekick !) my little girl ,Delila is the one with the real powers obviously. .
Sorry to anyone who has been checking out my blog and found nothing new of any interest for a long time . In fact nothing new for a long time since last year ! I have been very, very, very busy on a top secret project( that all my friends know about) working on an h.d. anamatic as part of the pitch to get the movie of the first book of 'his dark materials' trilogy by Philip Pullman green lit . The presentation was really top end and if I had a couple of hundred million I would want to make the film . Its early days but things look promising.
This was a poster i produced for the Philharmonia Orchestra to promote their Stepping Stones project . The idea was to create character orchestra members playing their various instruments to inspire children to get interested in music . ( the conductor is called Phil Harmonia ......its genius !!) The poster was displayed in schools across the country and apparently it was a successful scheme . Applications to join the orchestra went up by some 38%.............well they might have done ....it's possible !
Sit back in your tree, peel a banana and have a look at all things Tarzany .These were drawn for the first version of the movie . Yes ,we boarded the film twice . So its good to get a chance to show people stuff that would ordinarily not see the light of day
A variety of stuff here . All drawn in pencil and then accented using Photoshop . I like organic shapes . My friend and fellow artist, Richard Dolan once said to me that when he draws trees he thinks of them as bits of human anatomy such as the muscles of the arm . I always have that in my mind when thinking about natural shapes . So thanks for that Rich .( I am certain he won't remember ever saying that to me - He's a vegetarian and can barely remember
what he had for lunch let alone something he told me over a decade ago !)

I've just visited Harold siepermann's blog ( which is fab by the way ) not only did he work on Tarzan and he has a link to the thief and the cobbler, ( which I worked on for two years ) but he has just posted a great picture of a jellyfish . So to keep our symbiotic relationship in harmony I thought I would post the jellyfish I drew one evening for a pitch for a commercial . Apparently they didn't use my designs !!
well tomororrorrrorroww is saturday and that means football day . so lets hope this doesn't happen to me ....again !

Early boards of victor staggering into the land of the dead barber shop .There was no specific script for these scenes which allowed myself and the other board artists freedom to come up with ideas and to stage things how we saw it . A lot of fun .
